RE: I guess it's my turn - clogged black tank

I don't have one but it seems that the Flush King description needs one extra step. After inputting water from the garden hose, with the downstream gate valve closed and the upstream valve open, I think one should CLOSE the upstream valve, shut off the water, remove the hose, and seal the hose connection. Then dump as usual. If not, how does one keep the `stuff' out of the garden hose? Has a backflow preventer built in...

RE: I guess it's my turn - clogged black tank

A device called a "Flush King" might help. It attaches to the drain outlet where your sewer hose normally would connect), and includes a gate valve and an inlet for a garden hose on the upstream side of the gate valve. On the downstream side of the gate valve is a connection for your sewer hose. Looks like this: (Your normal sewer outlet connection is on the right of the photo) http://www.flushking.com/newphoto06.jpg What this thing does is forces water "backwards" up into the tank from the drain side which sometimes can tumble the "stuff" around and loosen a clog. After forcing some water upstream into the tank, shut off the incoming water and open the gate valve on Flush King to drain. You may need to repeat this a few cycles to fully clear all the "clumps". Of course be careful you don't overfill from this direction and cause an overflow inside! Probably one of the best investments I have made for my TT. Works great and simple to use...:)

RE: So how many have done this.

soren, if nothing else, your rant was certainly entertaining. BTW, what exactly IS a "horse's axe"?:p Oddly, if you enter the correct part of the horse's anatomy, it disappears pretty quickly:h. I'm glad you enjoyed the prose. I am always amazed at the current and retired Barneys and Dirty Harrys on this site who are upset and amazed that all members here aren't ready to genuflect to their power, and lick their boots as expected. There are many decent, honest, mentally balanced folks in the field, and I think I may have met at least one. That said, it is also awash with folks who are a real disasters and make it quite clear every time they open their mouths, or bang their knuckles on the keyboard. Rant over, have a nice day......OH, for the love of dog, can you really believe that a security guard, or whatever he is, would sign off with "have a nice day"? Wow, no issues there, EH? WOW!!! Talk about someone with issues....:E The OP broke the law and got a break! Perhaps civility and/or anger management would be for you???;)

RE: Paying bills.

I know that it does but it is more secure. I use wifi in my own house and we have control over how much security is used on it. Using a public wifi you have no control over the security of it! You don't have to buy into it, but I will not be crying in my cheerios because my bank and CC info was stolen because I used a public wifi! Been using both for several years with no problems. With the SSL security used by most financial as well as most online businesses the risk is small. But then nothing is absolutely secure and I promise you will not hear me cry. I do like Cheerios however...:B

RE: Paying bills.

One warning about doing banking on WiFi.. it is not safe. I would never do any type of banking online or accessing any credit card accounts, purchasing etc on a Wifi. Which means using the RV park, the coffee shop etc is not safe! The best way to do it is to use an aircard. About $60 per month and you get good coverage and it is safe and secure! We are looking into this option right now and that seems to be the going rate. Radio shack has a deal right now free air card(costs about $200) if you sign a two year agreement. And you base this alarming information on what???:R Sorry, can't drink your kool-aid. An aircard still sends a signal over the air...;) :R I would not access any of my bank accounts on a public Wifi service. Period. My basis is that people can and will get your information. I base this "alarming" information on some basic research on the internet and my wonderful DH whom is a computer forensic investigator. But what does he know:R

RE: Portable Generator

We are getting into camping in places with no hook-ups. would like some help on what a Honda EU2000 (or tandem EU2000) will run I have looked at the specs and can read them but would like to know what all will work at the same time. I have a Honda 5000 and it will run 2 TV,lights and AC all at the same time but it is way too loud. Am looking to sell it and buy 1 or maybe 2 2000's. Is anybody used them? 2 EU2000i's will run your RV including AC. 1 may or may not run your AC. Great little units...:)

RE: anyone else getting a scooter for local transport?

In a car, you can mount your GPS on the dash. On a scoot, it's in your bag or pocket - not so great for getting signal. A GPS mounts on a two wheeler just fine. And has a better look at the satellites for a signal then a car with a metal roof does. http://pic4.picturetrail.com/VOL744/4324275/9135908/323912614.jpg I have the same SP on my Harley. Works just great...:B

RE: Paying bills.

Ok, thanks everyone. First thing is to go talk to my banker. I will call him on Monday for an appt. This is very scarey to me. I really appreciate the quick responses. As a now fulltimer it is a very simple matter. Online bill pay with the bank, ATM card for cash and mail forwarding. None of the companies you are paying through bill pay have any access to your checking account. You have complete control of who, when and how much to pay and you can edit the amounts right up until it is actually sent by your bank. Set payments can be set to automatically send at a specific date with whatever amount is appropriate. Credit card payments can be sent with an amount that easily covers any minimum payment required or sign into your account with them and pay it in full if you want, but through YOUR bank. Most companies have online access or billing. I do not use their online bill pay but it gives me the amount due and I simply use the banks bill pay to make the payment. That way they have no access to your checking account. For example Verizon or Dish Network for me, I just access my account with them, get the amount due and go to my online banks bill pay and pay it. All my insurance is with State Farm and again just access my account, get the how much and when and pay it through the bank. My retirement checks are direct deposit so no problem. I have been using Bank of America for many years and their bill pay for about 5 years with ZERO problems. They will even send a payment through the mail, the stamps on them, if the person-company does not accept electronic transfers, such as the yard or pool maintenance person, etc. Too many folks think it is complicated or unsafe but it is really very easy and secure even for an old geezer like me. The banks online features allow me to transfer funds from checking to savings, savings to checking, credit card transfers, open new account(s), etc. All with the click of a mouse and I am sure no computer guru! I also use mail forwarding through Good Sam with zero problems. The key is to find internet access and you are good to go!!!:W

RE: And the deer listened intently

A week ago I was camped in a neat little campground alongside a beautiful meadow (see pic). After dinner I was sitting outside plunking on my mandolin. After a few songs I looked up and there were 3 deer about 75 yards away in the meadow looking at me. Their ears were pointed at me. For at least 10 minutes they hardly moved, always looking at me and never eating the grass. One did start to come my way, but turned back after a few yards. All at once they all "bounced" away at the same time. I say "bounced" because it looked like they were on pogo sticks. :) It was a very moving experience. A tear came to my eye as they left. I'm assuming that since they stayed so long they enjoyed my music. I think I'll have to come up with an original composition called "Deer in the Meadow". :) http://www.hogtimemusic.com/nomad/photos/RVJune08%20045.jpg Maybe they were dancing to the music...Should have offered them a brew...:B

RE: What would you do?

We pulled out tt out yesterday to the cg so we wouldn't have so much to do after getting off from work today.(CG is 20 miles away) We knew that we were at the very beginning of inlet of water and that it was possible the kids would not be able to swim there(to swampy). This was the only site that was available to reserve way back in March. Ok we pull up and see the water was down and a little growed up but the boat should make it. The site a little to left of us(but also in front of us a little was not considered a Lake site but there was a trail to the water that stops about mid way of the front of our site has 3 BIG tents on it. So we were like yeah us cause in past experiences tent campers in GA can get rowdy. We had almost finished setting up when the tent campers pulled up in a boat and parked right in front of our camper. I loudly said to my husband outside the camper "Well at least we know our boat will make it up here tomorrow" A few min. later a 2ND boat pulls up and parks in front of the camper. . Thats not all a few mins. later a 3RD very LOUD boat pulls up and takes the last spot available for the boat and leaves us no water even if the kids wanted to tread past the weeds. The first boater goes out to the 3rd boat and ask them to move to the other side of them so he did. Ok, There is a limit on our COE campgrounds at West Point Lake. 8 people max. There is at least 6 adults and 5 or 6 children. Should we say something to the camp host or should we wait and see if they behave? Also what should we do about their boats taking up the whole inlet. We almost pulled our camper back home yesterday. What would you do? Just wait till dark and untie their boats and push them out into the lake or stream. Plenty of room then...:B

RE: Complaint about park neighbors taking part of my site

He was there, already setup. I don't see what the problem is, the sites were too small for you and him both. Why blame him for that? He likely is still cursing you for putting your awning out in such a small area and soaking his wife's side of the mattress with your condensation from your loud air conditioner all night.... Two sides...... :) Or then again maybe they appreciated the shade!!!:B

RE: Complaint about park neighbors taking part of my site

Just a post to blow off some steam. We were camping last weekend, and pulled into the park late Friday afternoon. The spot we were given was one of the smaller spots. Normally, not a problem. The neighbor on our "curb" side was already in and setup. His site was much bigger and the side of his trailer was right on the "line" dividing the sites. The problem? His slideout was in our site. We're in a 27' trailer, he is in a pop-up. I got my trailer setup, pulled out the awning, and the awning actually was over their slideout. They were gone until later that night, otherwise I would've said something to them about it. Finally got myself cooled down and just decided to relax and enjoy the weekend. I did take some enjoyment in the fact that the water condensed from my AC was running down the awning and onto his canvas slideout. I decided not to make an issue of it with him, but mentioned it at the front desk when we checked out on Sunday. (This park has helpers to help guide you into the sites). Simple, just take out a big hammer and beat his slideout in till it's even with the line. :B

RE: Two 6v and one 12v battery, possible ?

Hello all, I have in my rig two 6v (Trojan T105)in series, charged by a Xantrex Freedom 2500 inverter (and a solar panel of 100w). I would like to add more batteries but there is no room for two more 6v in the battery compartment. Will it be possible to add a 12v battery in parellel (Trojan or a another brand)? Will this system function efficiently without one battery 'stealing' juice from the other(s)? Will the inverter know how to deal with the different kinds/voltage ? TIA, Isaac Well I am no expert and I have been told it will not work, BUT for 3 years now I have had 2 6 volt sams batteries in series, connected to 2 Lifeline series 31 12 volt AGM batteries hooked in paralell and have had ZERO problems and great results. Still I am sure not an expert!!!:E All I know is it's working for me...:W OH and no switches, cutoffs or whatever. Just a converter and ocassional charger from the Hondas....

RE: Week, Month, Seasonal

I stayed at a campground (they're all campgrounds to me) last week that had week, month or seasonal sites w/o waste hook-ups. Is there a term for these types of sites and where do you find them on the net? This place I stayed had a whole sheet of rules they hand out, i.e. No clothes lines. You cut the grass at your site if you stay more than a week with their mower. No entering or leaving the CG after 11pm, and the typical rules and reg. you see a lot. Are these rules common? I boondock at NPS CG's often where the maximum stay is two weeks so this stuff is new to me. Thanks I am at an RV park that sits right on the Gulf. $325 Mo. + Elect. Friendly staff, free WIFI and cable, full hookups and private fishing pier. Clean restrooms and showers, laundry room. Quiet and peaceful, except for the ocassional bear that raids the dumpster....:B Ho Hum RV Park

RE: A couple of nascar questions

If....IF....Tony does move to another team and possibly one where he is part owner, he will need to secure a sponsor(s). But nothings happened yet, (that anyone outside the circle knows of). So right now, he's sittin pretty with Joe Gibbs Racing with great backing and a fantastic car/motor choice. Today, Toyata had its first 123 finish. Why Kane is on fire????? I think his team is as surprised as he is. Not that he doesn't deserve to win, he's a class act. I think it is just getting his confidence level back. When the fans voted him in, in the all star event at Charlotte and he came from dead last to win it, it was just like someone hit the on switch for him.

RE: A couple of nascar questions

I think Joe has it right...its got to be humbling to have someone like Kyle come aboard and do so well. Personally, I can't stand Kyle, but the little turd can drive. He seems to be earning the comparison between himself and Dale Sr. I just hope that Tony doesn't wait too long to get his act together and be a contender for the chase. Agreed!!! :B

RE: My First Pull

What do you other rv noobs think about your 'first pull' impressions?I didn't ask for anyones opinion on the subject... go back and read the post... I was asking for new rv'ers first pull impressions Uh, OK. :R My first pull impression: When I traded in my popup for my current TT, I bought the WDH and sway control per the dealer. Since I own a pretty stout tow vehicle, the dealer suggested that I might try and tow without the sway control for a stretch to see if I experienced any sway. After a few trips, I did just that--with no problems. Then I experimented by not putting on the equalizer bars for a short trip from home to the dealer (about 6 miles). The 'Burb is almost level without the bars, and towed just fine. However, when I hitch up the TT for a road trip, I always install the sway bar and the equalizer bars. I figure that since I'm already at the back of the 'Burb, I might as well use every tool available to make my towing experience as safe as I can. I'd suggest you take your setup out to a very large empty parking lot. Try some emergency stops from 40 mph. Try doing a sharp turn to simulate an emergency manuever at the same speed. I've done it myself, and know what to expect if I ever have to do it out on the road. If it performs fine, then maybe you are OK without the extra stuff. If it doesn't handle well, the only person you are going to harm is yourself. Not necessarily. It might be one of the rest of us know-it-alls!!:E :W

RE: Both tank valves open???

We leave both valves closed. Empty the grey twice a week and the black once. We also regenerate the water softener weekly, if it needs it. Anyone who leaves the black open is asking for big trouble in river city. We have seen the results and it is ugly :E What Dianne said... The newbies next to where I am at left both open for a couple of week and could not figure why the toilet was trying to overflow!!!! Being the nice guy that I am, :W, I used my flush king to clear it up but it took about a dozen flushes and I am sure they still have a messy build up below the throne....:B
